Sunshine Smoothie with Turmeric

Good morning Food Lifers! Who here is a morning person? Cause I am!

Morning people feel energized in the morning, and are often at their peak levels of creativity and productivity before noon. That is so me. Personally, I do my best work before lunchtime. I find my brain gets less and less efficient as the day creeps toward evening.

Both morning people and night owls alike can enjoy my sunshine smoothie with turmeric recipe. Getting in some nutrition as soon as you wake up can increase energy and productivity, even for the grumpiest of morning-haters. And good news for all those who dread the ring of their morning alarm - this smoothie with turmeric comes together in under five minutes, is high in protein and antioxidants, and can be drunk on your morning commute. Plus, you get a kick of omega-3s with the added chia seeds.

The secret ingredient in this golden-coloured smoothie is turmeric. Turmeric is a root vegetable related to ginger, and is high in antioxidants. Although clinical research shows that turmeric does not possess any medicinal qualities, studies have shown that eating a diet that contains a lot of colourful vegetables and fruits (including turmeric) is associated with longevity, and decreased risk of cancer and heart disease. The good news is that turmeric is a relatively inexpensive spice with a neutral flavour that can be added to any number of foods. No need to run out and purchase expensive supplements, just try my smoothie with turmeric, or add it to soups, stews, and curries to get all of the antioxidants and health benefits.
